MAX, Indias Premium Movies & Special Events channel presents the Sahara
Indian Sports Awards that honours excellence in Indian Sporting Talent. The glittering
award ceremony was held earlier this month with a view to felicitate the achievement
and efforts of Indian sportspersons in their respective fields and also to recognize
the upcoming young talent. These awards also acknowledged the contribution of
coaches, sports officials and administrators. The
Sahara Indian Sports Award was graced by Indian Sporting Legends like Mr. Sunil
Gavaskar, (Cricket), Mr. Dhanraj Pillai (Hockey), Ms. Ashwini Nachappa (Athletics),
Mr. I.M. Vijayan (Football), Mr. Kamlesh Mehta (Table Tennis), Mr. Mehrwan Daruwalla
(Squash), Mr. Michael Ferreira (Billiards), Mr. Nandan Bal (Tennis), Mr. Praveen
Thipsay (Chess), Mr. Pullela Gopichand (Badminton) and Mr. Vikramjit Singh (Golf)
to name a few. The
award ceremony also witnessed the Indian Cricket team in full force with M. S.
Dhoni, Yuvraaj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra,
Virendra Sehwag, Gautam Gambir and Rohit Sharma gracing the occasion. Awards
under different categories were selected by a 13 person sports jury constituted
by living legends from different sport disciplines headed by Mr. Sunil Gavaskar
with KPMG auditing and monitoring the entire selection process.
Tinsel town
ladies added oodles of glamour to the already power packed ceremony. There were
glittering performances by Deepika Padukone, Dia Mirza, Neha Dhupia and Koena
Mitra. Shaimak Davar too gave an extraordinary dance and song performance. Boxing
sensation Vijendra Singh was spotted foot tapping on Bollywood numbers. Sneha
Rajani, Executive Vice President and Business Head, MAX commented, MAX is
extremely proud to partner with the Sahara Group to broadcast the Sahara Indian
Sports Awards. This is a great medium to salute the spirit of sportsmanship and
