| MUMBAI:
Every year on the second Sunday of the month of May, the World pauses in grateful
acknowledgement of the one individual to whom we owe our very existence - Mother.Though
she is special all the year through, we set apart one day to show Her how much
we care. Mothers day which falls on May 10th this year, is the time to express
our thankfulness, show our appreciation and reiterate our love for the soothing
presence to whom we are linked for life by an invisible umbilical cord. Amrita
TV commemorates this day with a variety of programmes. The
special edition of Udayamritham at 6.30am focuses on two women of our times, who
are personifications of love and compassion, qualities we usually associate with
motherliness- Mata Amritanandamayi and Mother Teresa. Aarakilenthu Mizhiyullavar
at 10.30am is a compilation of the best dance performances from Vanita Ratnam
2007 &2008. Including both solo performances as well as family dance rounds,
it showcases the hidden abilities of young mothers who soared to their full potential
when offered a platform to exhibit their talents. Elamadinte
Amma at 11 am is a documentary that tells the story of a woman, well past ninety
but still sprightly; mother of a magnificent brood of 14 children, but who lives
all alone in her ancestral Home. It matters little that her young ones have flown
the nest, for she is the mother of an entire hamlet, the Amma of Elamadu.
Considered the symbol of auspiciousness by the villagers, she lives a full life
inaugurating new ventures, playing hostess to the 25-30 guests who grace her table
at every meal
. Nothing
in the world tastes as good as mothers cooking. For those who wish to give
back a tiny fraction of what they had received, Taste of Kerala at 12.30 pm presents
a dish that will make this Sunday memorable for your mother. Easy to prepare and
consisting of just 4 ingredients, Seven Sweets is sure to delight Her since it
is sweetened with ones love. Thalolam at 2 pm is a film based programme
featuring the Mother Figures of Malayalam Cinema. The anchor introduces the actresses
who have essayed mothers roles, followed by their song sequences- Sukumari,
