DELHI: Golden Kela Awards are all set to bring to light what the
people at RANDOM magazine consider are the Best of the Worst
the Cream of the Crop, the Top of the List, the King of the Hill,
the Gunk Underneath the Bottom of the Barrel (phew!) - the very
Worst of Indian Cinema!
There
are numerous award ceremonies each year that celebrate the best
of Hindi Cinema. But so far, there has not been one that celebrates
the Worst. Despite the year-end lists and compilations by critics
and TV channels of the Worst, there is no real voice announcing
the worst cinematic excellence in a given year - like the well-known
Razzies of Hollywood - which is what Jatin Varma, Editor of RANDOM
magazine, is hoping the Golden Kela Awards will do. (Remember SRK
and Saif giving away the Na-real Awards during the Filmfare
ceremony last year !)
A
lot of people already know that most hit films arent
any good, at least here everybody can be in on the joke. Were
just doing what everybody else is thinking, said Jatin Varma,
Editor, RANDOM magazine. He further elaborates on what Kela
Awards are all about, he says, sometimes, film-stars
give performances that are not their best and repay our (the fans)
adoration with unbearable, intolerable performances
for which,
all we can offer them is a Golden Kela, and a Better Luck Next Time."
Jaspal
Bhatti, one of the Special guests to be present at the First Golden
Kela Awards ceremony has a history of mocking accepted norms. He
says, The Golden Kela Award is an award for excellence in
creativity of the lowest degree, that doesnt come without
luck and a lot of hard work in the wrong direction. I wish the best
of luck to all the nominees.
