On the occasion of Womens day, Zee Café brings you
the prestigious Womens World Awards 2009. After three successful
ceremonies in Hamburg, Leipzig and New York, the city of Vienna
is the host of the 4th Womens World Awards to be held on March
5, 2009.
Since
2004, The Womens World Awards have been a global platform
aimed at recognizing the works of extraordinary, strong and successful
women committed to the cause of improving the world. The fact that
the awards are presented by a man who himself changed the world,
Mikhail Gorbachev lends the platform a formidable stature. The awards
are presented in 12 different categories to women from across the
world whose achievements contribute to furthering self-determination,
gender equality, freedom and the elimination of all forms of social
and economic discrimination.
In
recent years, the Womens World awards have gone to the likes
of Benazir Bhutto, Oprah Winfrey, fashion icon Donnatella Versace,
actress Susan Sarandon, comedienne Whoopi Goldberg and supermodel
Claudia Schiffer amongst others.
In
an initial declaration, the World Awards Committee has announced
the first set of winners of the Women's World Awards 2009. Among
this year's honorees are Hollywood star Monica Bellucci (noted for
her performances in The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix revolutions
and The Passion of Christ), Nujood Ali, the 10-year-old girl from
Yemen who successfully went to court to divorce her 30-year old
husband whom she was forced to marry, Anastacia, the multi-platinum
American pop artise and song writer, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Betty Williams, teen idol Kelly Clarkson whos the current
number 1 on the U.S. charts, Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Chairwoman
of the Carlson Group & one of the most powerful women in the
world and music icon Marianne Faithfull whose successful music career
spans over 4 decades and who recently became an award-winning actress.
With
some of the worlds most accomplished, remarkable women congregating
at this splendid gala to celebrate womanhood, it is a must-watch
for every woman this Womens Day (8th March) at 7 PM on Zee
