Prime Focus creates the "evil within" Raaz2

Prime Focus, India's leading integrated end-to-end post production and visual effects services house, successfully delivers the post production and visual effects in, Raaz2, the mystery continues. Dubbed as Bollywood's most-expensive horror film, the movie has been directed by Mohit Suri and stars Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut.

The movie deals with issues of the "evil within" the human psyche and how it manifests itself. Based on the myths and superstitions that are still widely existent in the contemporary Indian society, the movie extensively uses VFX and ahs become an integral part of a movie's story and appeal. With over 500 shots Prime Focus has created a magical and thrilling experience using their different facilities in Mumbai & Hyderabad.

Commenting on the use of VFX in today's cinema, Mr. Merzin Tavaria, Creative Head VFX/Animation, Prime Focus said "The success of VFX lies in its ability to convince the audience that the scene is real, it is the effect that an audience is unable to interpret. For instance, there was a bull sequence in the movie where a group of bulls attack Emraan and Kangana's car. We first studied references of the model & then created a computer generated bull. The sequence required to give a lot of detailing to the structure & the realistic movement of the animal. The audience could not decipher that visual effects were used in this movie."

"The movie also involved a lot of Matte painting, which is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that would otherwise be too expensive to build or visit" added Mr. Tavaria.

The most thrilling sequence in the movie was the mirror sequence with Kangana. The effect of her getting surprised by her ghost and gripping the audience was a brainstorm. We did start of this sequence where Kangana bends to pick something up and her reflection remains in the mirror. Later, we had to add fog to the glass created because of the steam coming from the hot water and after the fog gathered, the water droplets were created to add realism to the mirror and shots.
