DHL and CNBC-TV18 felicitate India’s Best Exporters with the International Trade Awards 2008-2009

MUMBAI: DHL & CNBC-TV18 declared the winners of the 3rd edition of ‘International Trade Awards’ powered by ICRA, in Mumbai. The awards are aimed at recognizing the efforts of businesses whose achievements and practices have contributed in making India the new World trade hub. The awards were given away by Mr. GK Pillai, India’s Commerce Secretary.

The global economic slowdown has badly hit several sectors making survival a key concern for all industry players. Hence companies are now focusing on growth, marketing innovation, cutting operational costs, managing head counts and doing selective business with no taking risks..

Against this background, Managing Growth in turbulent times was the theme adopted for this year’s Awards as Indian exporters have shown a remarkable resilience. Inspite of global recessionary conditions, they have recorded a positive growth of 3.56% in 2008-09, at a time when most Western countries are experiencing a de-growth.

DHL & CNBC-TV18 honoured those members of the Indian Exporter Community who have set new standards in an increasingly competitive industry, consistently delivered value to their customers and taken brand India to the world.

This year’s awards were indeed special. As A.B. Ravi, Editor-Special Projects,
CNBC-TV18, pointed out, “The international trade sector has been badly hit by the global crises in the market. Companies need to focus on various internal and external processes to survive this phase. As a responsible news channel, CNBC-TV18 has been espousing the cause of the Indian exporters as well as showcasing their successes. The International Trade Awards is our way of saluting the never-say-die spirit of the Indian exporters.”

As Malcolm Monteiro, Senior Vice-President& Area Director - South Asia, DHL Express, points out, “Today businesses across the world are reorganizing and restructuring to tide over the storm of economic recession. Trade is the best antidote to an economic crisis and importers and exporters form the very backbone of trade. DHL India is proud to have created this platform to honour the outstanding entrepreneurs who have braved the times, set new benchmarks and brought a lot of credence to the “Made in India” tag. The International Trade Awards 2009 acknowledges all the fore runners on whose resilience we can only be sure that India will be back to its roaring best.”
