MUMBAI:
Hosts West Indies will hope to continue their improved showing in
recent times when they take on the top-ranked Test nation Australia
in a three-Test match and five One Day International series.
The
series, which starts with the first Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica
on Thursday, May 22, will be available live and exclusive on Ten
Sports, the most watched sports channel in the Sub-continent.
Live
coverage of the first Test starts 8:30 pm IST on Thursday, May 22.
The
hosts go into the series on the back of an impressive performance
against Sri Lanka they drew the two-Test series 1-1 after
losing the opening Test, and then claimed the three-match ODI series
2-0, with one match being abandoned due to rain.
But
Australia, under captain Ricky Ponting, will be a completely different
level of challenge for Ramnaresh Sarwan, who steps in for the injured
Chris Gayle and will lead West Indies in the first Test. Gayle has
succumbed to the groin injury that kept him out of the Indian Premier
League and Dwayne Bravo, has been named Sarawans new deputy.
Australia
are expected to be without Michael Clarke in the opening Test after
the reliable middle-order batsman decided to stay back Down Under
to attend the funeral of his fiancées father. But given
their immense batting depth, the Australians should not get too
worried about his absence.
