| MUMBAI:
Valentino Rossi has already established himself as one of the greatest driver
ever on two wheels, and will touch a landmark figure of starting in 200 Grand
Prix races when he revs up his Yamaha at the British Grand Prix at Donington Park.
And Ten Sports,
the most watched sports channel in the Sub-continent, will be there on Sunday,
June 22, to bring the historic moment live from Donington Park as the charismatic
Italian attempts to win his fourth race in last five starts and consolidate his
position on top of the championship. Live
telecast on Ten Sports starts Sunday, June 22, from 4:15 pm IST. The atmosphere
promises to be electric, with heavy ticket sales indicating there will be more
than 130,000 fans at the Park. A
five-time British Grand Prix winner, Rossi is excited about the prospect of racing
on one of his favourite circuits, and is confident of doing much better than his
disappointing fourth place finish here last season. Rossi,
who currently leads Honda rival Danni Pedrosa by seven points, said: This
circuit is incredible. The first bend for me is one of the bends like those
at Mugello or Barcelona. It is very fast, technical, and it is very difficult
with the braking point. I
like this circuit a lot. I have a lot of great memories, especially the first
victory here in 500s, in the wet with a great battle with Jeremy McWilliams. Last
year was a difficult grand prix and not going on the podium was a disappointment.
Here,
the podium is always a great emotion because there is a great crowd so we try
to get back on the podium for sure. Rossi
is on 142 points, seven ahead of Pedrosa who bridged the gap with his win in Barcelona
two weeks ago. It is then another 41 points to Jorge Lorenzo, who missed the previous
race through injury, while Australian Casey Stoner, so dominant last season, is
another two back on 92. Stoner is the defending champion, having won in wet conditions
one of his 10 wins of 2007. Pedrosa
has done very well this year and his win in Barcelona will certainly add to his
confidence after several close calls this year. But with Rossi in such good form,
if the Spaniard is going to win the championship, then he is going to have to
win more races, as just podiums wont be enough. |
