MUMBAI:The recent match fixing expose involving Marlon Samuels
and bookie Mukesh Kochchar once again resurrected the ghost of match
fixing. To uncover the truth, STAR News launched a special investigation
into the connection between cricket and match fixers. During our
investigations we have uncovered shocking truths involving Indian
bookies, International cricketers and how the underworld still has
an important stake in this entire episode.
Speaking for the first time on match fixing in cricket and the
punters and bookies involved in it; underworld gangster and close
aide of underworld boss Dawood Ibrahim; Chhotta Shakeel made a number
of astonishing claims.
Chhotta Shakeel claimed that 'Bhai' (Dawood Ibrahim) and he never
gambled on cricket matches; but admitted that many of their gang
members are closely involved in the same. Shakeel also claimed that
he doesn't know alleged bookie Mukesh Kochchar; whose name came
up recently in the Marlon Samuels phone tap episode.
He however admitted to knowing alleged bookie Kamal Kishore Chaddha
saying that they met at social parties. He also admitted to threatening
Shobhan Mehta (another alleged bookie) for his alleged involvement
in match fixing.
During the investigation; STAR News also spoke to a number of bookies;
who revealed for the first time on television the new and innovative
way in which cricket bets are being placed. Revealed for the first
time was the concept of 'Fancy Bat', known as Session betting abroad.
This modus operandi is a fairly popular in Delhi and Jaipur.
Each match here is divided into four sessions and separate stakes
are taken for each session and by manipulating the game of a single
player, the course of the entire match could be changed.
"Fancy Bat" is a breeding ground for individual player's
nexus with "fixers". It's a door to match fixing and price
maneuvering in the betting market.
Bookies and Punters don't have to fix the match, but instead bet
on inside information provided by players.
"Fancy Bat" is an invention of Indian bookies - sources
reveal to Star News that prices for these "Fancy Bats"
open from Delhi for the World Market.
With the World Cup around the corner, session betting may have
devastating consequences. This special investigation and interview
was carried for the first time in STAR News program Benaqab - Cricket
Ki Company.
