MUMBAI: Tiger Woods will try to defend his title at the Dubai Desert
Classic live and exclusive on Ten Sports. 12 time Major champion
Woods is in remarkable form, having claimed his 7th consecutive
US PGA tour victory on Sunday at the Buick Invitational and will
attempt to hold on to a title that he won in dramatic style last
year, beating Ernie Els in a play off.
The Dubai event continues to grow in stature every year, attracting
a field of the worlds top golfers with a total prize money of 2.4
million dollars. It will be played on the Majlis course of the beautiful
Emirates golf club in the heart of Dubai. The European stars looking
to disturb Tiger Woods's hold on the title include Ryder Cup hero
Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie. In all 9 of the
12 players from the European team in the Ryder Cup will be in action
However, many eyes in the first 2 rounds will be on former world
number 1 Greg Norman, who returns to Dubai to play alongside the
current stars, even though he has been concentrating on his golf
course development business in recent years. Norman was world number
1 for 331 consecutive weeks, a record that only Tiger Woods has
broken.
The other major contender will of course be Ernie Els, the champion
in Dubai in 1994, 2002 and 2005, looking for revenge from last years
play-off defeat. The coverage on Ten Sports is in addition to the
channels' live coverage of the FBR Open from the United States,
leading to 7 hours a day of live golf this weekend.
Ten Sports broadcasts exclusive coverage of the US PGA tour, European
tour and the US PGA Championships as well as coverage of the top
Indian golf events.
