MUMBAI: Last weekend, Star Gold had everyone in splits when it
showcased the funniest scenes from the funniest films in Indian
cinema. And the laughter mania continues as Purbi Joshi, the host
of Star Gold Comedy Honors has a special line up in store for this
weekend’s episode of ‘101 Greatest Comic Scenes’!
This Saturday’s special show is dedicated to the female comedians
in Bollywood while Sunday’s episode will highlight some of
the best situational comedy! So get set to go back in time and catch
up on some of the most side-splitting scenes from the 1970’s
till date this Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m. on “101 Greatest
Comic Scenes” only on Star Gold!
 This
Saturday, Purbi will showcase some of the best scenes featuring
India’s first generation female comedians like Meena Shorie,
Geeta Bali and Madhubala. Also, watch out for some of the funniest
scenes featuring Bollywood diva’s like Hema Malini, Sridevi,
Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Kajol who have excelled in comedy!
On Sunday, tune in to some hilarious scenes from films like Golmal,
Chupke Chupke, Bawarchi or the all time comedy classics Angoor and
Amar Akbar Anthony. And if that’s not enough… our very
own host Purbi has planned some entertaining gags as she imitates
none other than the Big B - Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Dream Girl
- Hema Malini.

Born in Sunder Nagar, a slum near King’s Circle in Mumbai,
Johnny studied till the seventh standard at the Andhra Educational
Society’s High School before he dropped out. For quite some
time he did odd jobs much to the chagrin of his father who was a
worker at the Sewri factory of the multinational giant Hindustan
Lever.
John was working as an ordinary manual laborer at Hindustan Lever
and everyone wanted to be on his shift because he made work so enjoyable
because of his constant barrage of jokes. One day, at a union meeting,
he imitated some officers and soon became the darling of the workers.
He became a constant at “Apna Kalakar” the annual day
programme at the Levers factory. That is also the place where he
got his performing name of “Johnny Lever”.
One of the first Indian film actresses to perform comedy was Meena
Shorie. She along with superstar ‘Motilal’ were a super
hit pair. In the comedy film ‘Ek thi Ladki’, the famous
song ‘Lari Lappa Lari Lappa’ was extremely popular and
in fact Meena was known as the ‘Lari Lappa Lari Lappa’.
Post partition, Meena went to Pakistan but she proved that even
women can perform excellent comedy
Geeta Bali, the popular actress of Black and White films, won
many hearts by performing comedy. With super hit films like 'Albeli'
'Ms. Cocacola' 'Coffehouse' in her kitty, Geeta’s untimely
death was a huge loss to Hindi Cinema
Known for his comic timing, Satish Kaushik has performed some hilarious
comedy gags in films like Mr. India and a series of David Dhawan
movies. However, when he turned Director, he surprisingly made serious
films like 'Hum aapke dil mein rahtey hain' 'Tere Naam', etc
