19th October: The Mallorca Classic, the penultimate event of the
European Tour calendar gets under way this weekend and viewers can
catch all the action from days three and four live on Ten Sports.
The tournament is played at the picturesque Pula Golf Club, located
in Son Servera, Mallorca Island, a course where good knowledge of
the layout is vital. All three previous winners of the event have
been Spanish with Miguel Angle Jimenez, Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria
Olazabal all claiming the title.
Olazabal will head another illustrious field this weekend and all
those competing know there are valuable points available for the
European Order of Merit.
These points will be vital for both those looking to the top the
Order of Merit and those scrapping to preserve their player’s
card for next season. Those at the wrong end of the Order of Merit
have added pressure as this is their last chance as the final event
on the calendar, The Volvo Masters is only open to the top 60 players
on the Order of Merit.
Also included in the field are fellow Ryder Cup winners, Robert
Karlsson, Paul McGinlay and Sergio Garcia as well as other top names
such as Thomas Bjorn and Simon Khan.
The action gets under way on Saturday at 18-00 IST.
