‘Aye Vatan Tere Liye’ – a Zee News documentary on Bhagat Singh

On the anniversary of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom March 23rd, Zee News will present a documentary ‘Ay Vatan Tere Liye’, on the life of Bhagat Singh, one of India’s greatest freedom fighters. Piyush Mishra a well-known playwright and authority on Bhagat Singh will anchor the programme.

The documentary would also have the cinematic elements that are present in the four films that have already been made on Bhagat Singh. It will have scenes from Lahore where he was hanged in the central jail. The programme would be done on a grand scale with Piyush Mishra anchoring in the majestic background of Kotla fort. The fort has its significance, as it was here that Bhagat Singh formed his own party. It will be a visual trail on the life of Bhagat Singh covering unexplored part of his life. From Punjab to Lahore the focus will be on the different aspects of his enigmatic character. Apart from well-researched editorial content we will have sleek production and grand canvas.

Asking the viewers if there any young Bhagat Singh in India today, the programme attempts to seek contemporary relevance of Bhagat Singh. The program looks at the Jaliyanwala Bagh tragedy which inspirited Bhagat Singh and recreates among other things the final attempt of Bhagat Singh to blow up the assembly building.

Zee News has been a Pioneer and a thought leader when it comes to producing documentaries with Political and Social implications. The documentaries produced have exclusive content and each of the documentaries have touched on subjects unknown for so long.

Among the recent initiatives, Zee News had done a special tracing back on the mystery and secrecy surrounding the controversial death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in a plane crash. The documentary with its in-depth research and exclusive interviews was a serious attempt to piece the puzzle surrounding his life and death.

Jinnah v/s Jinnah was one more in the lineup that exposed the real truth behind a man who evokes conflicting feelings among people of India and Pakistan. The episode anchored by well known actor Irfan Khan, showed the implications of Jinnah and Winston Churchill’s secret talks and the real truth behind the politician’s life.

On November 19 2005, on Indira Gandhi’s birthday, Zee News did a 60-minute documentary on her life, tracing various milestones. The documentary traced the life of Indira Gandhi, the name that inspired awe, from a reticent young girl to being one of the most powerful world figures, her life and work with rare footage of Anand Bhawan where she spent her childhood to her rise to power as the prime minister.

Besides these documentaries, Zee News had raised the bar in programming with exemplary documentaries on India’s lesser-known Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri under whose leadership Independent India won the first war and the mysterious circumstances around his death and other such programming initiatives on the Akshardham Attack and the attack on the parliament on 13th December.
