Mumbai, July 27, 2006 - He's THE Bond, James Bond. He's the one
who made a thick Irish brogue a thing for women to swoon over. A
sex symbol, and an iconic film star for more than 4 decades, Sean
Connery receives the highest honour for a career in film - the AFI
Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute's Board Of
Trustees
this Saturday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. only on Star World.
This year, the awards will be presented to Sir Sean Connery at
a gala tribute in Los Angeles, attended by the movers and shakers
of the creative community. A plethora of Connery's well-known friends
and collaborators both in front of, and behind the camera, speak
about their experiences with Connery - on and off the film set.
Packed with private anecdotes, personal recollections and witty
observations, this is a chance for fans and film lovers to catch
a glimpse of the man behind the suit, his private loves and altruistic
concerns
and of life in that world we call Hollywood.
That's complemented by a presentation of Connery's extensive range
and body of work over the years, from his Bond days, to his unforgettable
stint in Alfred Hitchcock's Marnie, his fruitful partnerships in
A Fine Madness, The Wind And The Lion, and The Hill with Sidney
Lumet (amongst others), and his highly popular action flicks in
the later stages of his career, including and earlier one who won
him an Oscar, The Untouchables.
Expect to see plenty of Hollywood's most revered stars as well.
Attended and presented by a plethora of big names like Harrison
Ford, Mike Myers, Andy Garcia, Jane Seymour and many many more,
this is a star-studded event which pays touching tribute to a body
of work that has been accessible, inspired, ground-breaking, memorable
and unfailingly entertaining through the years.
Most of all, it's a joy to watch Sean Connery as he laughs, cries,
and watches in quiet pride the sum of his achievements. With this,
Sean Connery joins the ranks of film giants. Past recipients of
the award include Orson Welles, Jack Lemmon, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin
Scorsese, Dustin Hoffman, Greogory Peck, John Huston, Sidney Poitier,
Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, and in more recent
years, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and
George Lucas.
"The recipient should be one whose talent has in a fundamental
way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged
by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public;
and whose work has stood the test of time."
- Howard Stringer, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees.
We second that, Mr. Stringer. Don't forget to catch the 34th Annual
AFI Life Achievement Award to Sir Sean Connery this Saturday, July
29th at 6 30 p.m. only on Star World.
