Mahamastakabhisheka Mahotsava of the World famous of over 1025 years
old, colossal, highest of its kind, 57 feet tall mono lithic Digambar

Swamy, majestically standing on top of the 3000 feet high Vindhyagiri
Hill at Shravanabelagola in Hassan District, Karnataka, which will
be held from 22nd January 2006 to 19th February 2006.
The aforesaid Mahamastakabhisheka Mahotsava (Head anointing ceremony)
is held once in every 12 years. The completion of 1000th year Sahasrabdi
Mahotsava was held in 1981 in which the then Prime Minister of India,
Smt. Indira Gandhi had participated while the ceremony in 1993 was
attended by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri P.V. Narasimha
Rao and Shri Shanker Dayal Sharma President of India amongst all
other dignitaries.
This year the Inauguration for the aforesaid Mahotsava was held
on 22nd January 2006 at Shravanabelagola, performed by the Hon'ble
President of India, Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and thereafter all other
leading dignitaries and VVIPs are expected to attend the Mahotsava.
It will also attract large number of foreign visitors.
The text of the Address delivered by the Hon'ble President of India,
to the gathering on this occasion is annexed.
The importance of the event is heightened with the fact that the
Karnataka Govt. chose the display of Mahamastakabhisheka of the
replica of Statue of Lord Bahubali for its Tableau for the Republic
Day Parade held last year in Delhi on 26th January 2005 and it went
on to win the First Prize for the best display.
Both the stories of Bhagwan Bahubali and of the sculpting of the
1025 years old gorgeous statue of Lord Bahubali in the year 981
A.D. are very inspiring and Amar Chitra Katha have brought out their
title Bahubali Vol. No. 683.
Bhagwan Bahubali is the first Jain Saint to achieve Moksha or Nirvana.
He was the son of the first Jain Tirthankar Lord Adinath. Lord Bahubali
renounced his kingdom even though he emerged victorious over his
brother Bharat Chakravorty, overwhelmed by both enornity and futility
of the desire for material wealth. He made the supreme sacrifice
of leaving all worldly pleasures and attained Moksha.
