MUMBAI: Javed Akhtar, frontline lyricist, screenwriter and Urdu
poet, will pay tribute to one of the legends of Indian advertising
Subhash Ghosal on Tuesday 19 December 2006 . This will be at the
annual Memorial Lecture of the SGF at the Hotel Taj President in
Mumbai at 7.30 pm. The title of the talk will be The Role
of Cinema in Secular India.
The event is sponsored by ABP Limited.
The Subhas Ghosal Foundation was set up to promote the values that
Mr. Ghosal stood for in his lifetime.
Subhas Ghosal spent his whole working career with the Thompson
Company but his concern and indeed his presence extended over the
entire profession of marketing communication. For more than fifty
years, his individual talents, his charisma and his altruistic character
influenced the course that the advertising profession took in India.
One of the several projects undertaken by the Foundation each year
is the Subhas Ghosal Foundation Lecture. The Foundation does not
restrict its choice of speakers to any one field; but draws on the
wisdom of experts in many areas of excellence.
One such expert, known for both his wit and his wisdom, is Mr.
Javed Akhtar.
Javed Akhtar belongs to a family lineage that can be traced back
to seven generations of writers. His own career as a scriptwriter
(collaborating with Salim) gave mainstream Hindi cinema a new direction
and garnered respect for the written word. Later, when he turned
lyricist, Javed wrote some of the best-loved songs in Indian cinema.
Javed Akhtar makes no secret of his opinions. He has lectured on
subjects ranging from Urdu poetry and Hindi cinema to social justice
and communal harmony. He has been articulate and passionate in Print
and on TV but he is, unarguably, best savoured live.
This is precisely why The Subhas Ghosal Foundation is delighted
that Javed Akhtar will deliver the Foundation Lecture 2006.
