In 1943, the first major U.S. offensive of World War II is drawing to a close on the South Pacific island of Guadalcanal. To put an end to this campaign, the United States Army arrives with a full division of troops and equipment, deployed to break the last resistance of the Japanese. The exploits of this Division are seen from a number of perspectives amongst the soldiers; to include a war weary Sergeant, a power hungry Colonel, a Private who has known only desertion and AWOL, and a Company Commander is struggling with his abilities as a leader. The horrors of war forms the soldiers into a tight-knit group, their emotions develop into bonds of love and even family. The reasons for this war get further away as the world for the men gets smaller and smaller until their fighting is for mere survival and the life of the other men with them.

"A film of brilliant pieces and dazzling shots!" - Newsweek

"Although Malick hasn't made a movie in two decades, he hasn't lost his touch for eye-catching vistas and the poetics of conflict." - Arizona Republic

"The Thin Red Line is an epic aestheticization of World War II, a movie at once bold and baffling, immediate and abstract." - Entertainment Weekly

Watch The Thin Red Line to see an all star-cast of Hollywood's hottest leading men, including George Clooney (Ocean's Eleven), Sean Penn (21 Grams), Adrian Brody (The Pianist), James Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ), Ben Chaplin (Murder by Numbers), John Cusack (Runaway Jury), Woody Harrelson (After the Sunset) and Jared Leto (Panic Room) in a movie directed by the acclaimed director Terrence Malick (Days of Heaven).

Did you know:

" Malick shot for 100 days in Australia, 24 in the Solomon Islands and 3 in the United States.

" The original cut of the film was just under 6 hours in length. Over a million feet of film was shot.

" Before pre-production began, director Terrence Malick walked on foot across the entire southwest, stopping periodically to call producers Robert Michael Geisler and 'Grant Hill' to talk about the meaning of the film.

" The movie was almost not made. Sony Pictures dropped its plans to produce it because of fears that it couldn't be made for its then-$45 million budget. Fortunately, Fox studios came to the rescue by providing most of the cash.
