Ten Sports to show live coverage of Buick Open

MUMBAI, August 02: The Buick Open gets underway on Thursday 3rd August live on Ten Sports. Vijay Singh, the only three-time winner in Buick open history (1997, 2004, 2005), will try to become the first player to win the tournament three consecutive times when he defends his title.

Tiger Woods, the world's number one player, will also be competing fresh from his impressive victory in The Open two weeks ago. Woods, the 2002 Buick Open Champion will be making his fifth consecutive appearance at the Buick Open. He finished in the top-10 in five of his last six starts at Warwick Hills. Woods, 30, is the PGA Tour's all-time leader in prize money and is seventh on the PGA Tour career victory list with 48. He is second on the Buick Open's career money list with $1,703,740.

Singh, 43, became the first player to win the Buick Open in consecutive years since Tony Lema in 1965. He is the tournament's all-time money leader ($2,152,949) and will be making his 11th appearance at Warwick Hills. Singh is second on the PGA Tour's career earnings list.

Chris McDonald, CEO, Taj Television Limited, owners of Ten Sports said: “We are delighted to be able to bring live coverage of this fantastic golf event. The Buick Open is one of the big events in the golfing calendar, ideally placed between The Open and the PGA Championship, the fourth major of the year, which Ten Sports will also be covering live and exclusive later this month. The Buick Open often gives a good indication of which players will be up at the top of the leaderboard of the PGA Championship.”

Other names to look out for include Corey Pavin, who broke a ten year drought when winning the US Bank Open last weekend and Chris DiMarco and Jim Furyk who finished second and fourth respectively behind Woods in The Open.

Woods, Singh, and the rest of the 2006 Buick Open field will compete for a record $4.8 million purse, including a $864,000 first prize.
