MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued two more TV channel licences in the month of April, with Media Worldwide Ltd and IBC Tamil Private Ltd being its beneficiaries.

Media Worldwide Ltd and IBC Tamil Pvt Ltd applied for a licence under the channel name of Bong and IBC Tamil respectively under the non-news category.

Media Worldwide is a regional music network that operates free-to-air (FTA) channels Music India, Sangeet Bangla, Sangeet Bhojpuri, Sangeet Marathi and Bangla Talkies.

The network launched its operations in 2005 with a Bengali TV channel and currently boasts of a five-channel portfolio. In November 2018, it launched Bangla Talkies, a back-to-back Bengali music channel.

Earlier in April, the ministry had handed a TV channel licence each to ABP News Network (ANN) and BBC Global News India.

While ANN got the MIB nod (uplinking and downlinking) for ABP Sanjha, a Punjabi news channel, BBC was handed a licence (only downlinking) for its pre-school kids channel CBeebies.

In February this year, ANN had received four new TV channel licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) under the names ABP Andhra, ABP Ganga, ABP Kannada, and ABP Tamil.
