It's all about a slice of hospital life.
The recreation of this life into Sanjivani the serial has
been a marathon task, however. It began as a vague idea in the
mind of a young creative director at Cinevista Communictions,
was taken up zealously by a channel looking out anxiously for
concepts that would be as great a sellout as KBC. Not a run of
the mill family drama, it has consumed months of research, consultations
and crosschecks.
The sets, the cast and the direction have been finalised with
an eye for the different. The making of Sanjivani has had
its own challenges but the product may just click in a world of
also-rans. The four actors who play the lead protagonists make
their major small screen debut with this serial and bring a freshness
that would probably not have been possible with veteran actors.

The crew comes together in a dinghy industrial estate in suburban
Mumbai, which has been transformed beyond recognition into a hospital
that's swank, colourful and modernistic. The idea is to create
a look that's never been seen before on Indian television. So,

Sanjivani is a risk, although calculated, for Star Plus that's
striving to retain its stranglehold on the satellite channel market.
Promotion has been strong and across all media countrywide. The
channel is ensuring that the product turned out is a classier
version of Lifeline, a similar series that enthralled viewers
13 years ago on Doordarshan. In terms of parallels though, it
is more closely linked to the successful hospital drama series
Chicago Hope on which it is loosely modelled.

Cinevista has dabbled in all genres over the years but Sanjivani
is uncharted territory for the production house. In scale
and budget, it has turned out to be one of the costliest for the
producers. Find

Technical wizardry and snazzy looks later, what finally matters
to a serial is the directorial treatment. Director Kaushik Ghatak
has sampled small screen success with Kyunkii…. and Shh…koi
hai. In Sanjivani, he tries a different tack, moulding
the fresh actors and making them emote to perfection. His
reading of Sanjivani…

finally, a peek at how the serial is taking shape in a studio
