What the ratings say
Posted on 23 July 2003

The TAM ratings monitored over the last one year and more bear out the theory that stories converted to populist tracks have indeed worked at the home box office.

In April 2002, Sanjivani was trailing at number 28 with a TVR of 3.75, while Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand was at number 35 with a TVR of 3.34. Krishna Sharma CA was at number 37 with TVR of 3.1. In September, the revamped Krishna Arjun was number 47 with a TVR of 3.49, while KHD was behind it at number 50 and a TVR of 3.41.

By October 2002, Sanjivani and Kehta Hai Dil were at number 22 and 23, with TVRs of 4.08, a distinct improvement over its earlier performances. By the end of October, Sanjivani was at 5.59 and at number 19 while KHD was at number 23 with a TVR of 4.67.

By December 2002, Sanjivani was number 14 with a TVR of 5.92, while KHD was picking up at number 21 and a TVR of 4.62. Krishna Arjun had picked up too, at number 31 and a TVR of 3.86.

By Janurary 2003, Sanjivani was number 12 with a TVR of 6.35, and KHD was close behind at number 14 and a TVR of 5.72. Krishna Arjun the same week at number 48 with a TVR of 3.31, was at an experimental stage with stories being dragged out over more episodes than one

By April this year, KHD had risen to number 12 with a TVR of 8.4, Sanjivani followed with a TVR of 7.3. Krishna Arjun climbed at number 30 and a TVR of 4.4. Kya Haadsa Kya Haqeeqat entered the top 100 around this time though at number 92 and a TVR of 2.3.

By May, KHD was number 9, part of the prestigious top 10 with a TVR of 9.3, and Sanjivani was number 14 with a TVR of 7.8. Krishna Arjun has had a dramatic climb at number 20 and a rating of 5.5. KHKH climbs steadily at number 77 and a TVR of 2.2.

By June, Des Mein... had managed to grab the top spot sporadically after having been in the later 20s for a long time. KHD (7.8 ) and Sanjivani (6.9) at numbers 13 and 14 had more or less stablised at that level, a good score from the earlier dismal runs they had. So has Krishna Arjun though it does slip on and off but remains afloat above an average rating of 4. KHKH continues its steady climb at number 67 and a TVR of 2.6.

Last heard from TAM, the UTV produced KHD is only marginally ahead of Cinevistaas' Sanjivani at number 15 and a TVR of 7.7 and climbing. Krishna Arjun has dived again to 33 but a better TVR of 4.4, but it is Sony's KHKH with its new supernatural element that is progressing steadily at number 38 and a TVR of 3.8.
