VSNL ENHANCES TRANSPONDER CAPACITY
VSNL has leased seven additional C-band
transponders on the to-be launched Insat 2E. The corporation's
chairman and managing director Amitabh Kumar says that with
this it will have 18 transponders in all on various satellites,
which will be marketed to broadcasters.
"There's a lot of demand from existing
broadcasters for transponders on Insat 2E. They want to
uplink to the satellite from within India," he says. "The
broadcasters are mainly from the south of India and broadcast
satellite TV services in regional languages."
