MTV TO EXTEND MERCHANDISING TO INDIA AND CHANNEL IN SOUTH ASIA

MTV is planning on entering the merchandising business in India by mid-1999. This follows MTV Asia's recent launch of a range of apparel in Singapore under its brand name. The catchline for the clothing is: `MTV Clothes, Anything Goes.'

MTV India director Sudanshu Sarronwala says that the merchandising foray is going to make waves in India. Niren Hiro, currently corporate communications head at the network, will spearhead the merchandising activity.

The channel has also announced that it is going to ink further deals with cable TV and terrestrial networks in south Asian countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Maldives and Mauritius for carriage of MTV India. MTV is already available in Sri Lanka through arrangements with local stations.
