CABLE MODEM FIRM LOOKS FOR INDIAN PARTNER
US firm Broadcom Corp is considering setting
up a manufacturing facility in India. Broadcom, which is
on the cutting edge of highly integrated solutions for broadband
digital data transmission, is scouting around for an Indian
partner for its Indian venture.
The company recently announced the international
launch of its single-chip cable modem solution. It also
introduced a graphics chip, which allows TV viewers to simultaneously
access the Internet while watching television.
Broadcom has strategic customer relationships
with companies such as 3Com, Bay Networks, Cisco Systems,
General Instrument, Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta. The
company sees a market for its cable modems and set-top boxes
in India with the government opening up the Internet services
market to cable operators. India has in excess of 20 million
cable TV subscribers and about 30,000 cable operators.
