ISRO CONFIRMS LAUNCH OF OCENASAT

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has confirmed that will launch IRS-P4, Ocean Sat-1 (an oceanographic satellite) in the first quarter of 1999. Isro chairman Dr Kasturirangan told a local paper that the locally developed geo-stationary launch vehicle would be blasted off into the skies by the third quarter of 1999. He added that he was hoping to get the number of Indian transponders in space up from 66 currently to 130 by the year 2003.
