EENADU TV PUTS OFF CHANNEL LAUNCH

Numero uno Telugu channel Eenadu TV has postponed the launch of its Kannada language television channel indefinitely. The channel was scheduled to be launched by early 1999 and offer competition to DD-Kannada and to the Sun Network promoted Udaya TV. The Eenadu management says the launch was put off as the company is awaiting the passage of the Broadcasting Bill.

CABLE OPERATOR LOOKS FOR JOINT VENTURE PARTNER

A Delhi-based cable operator has placed an ad in a local daily looking for a joint venture partner to help expand his network, apart from aiding his foray into Internet services. The contact details are as follows: cablejv@hotmail.com

SONY BAGS FILM RIGHTS BEFORE THEIR RELEASE

In what is being described as a new trend, Hindi general entertainment television channel Sony Entertainment has signed on with two producers to telecast two Hindi films even before their theatrical release. In recent times, channels such as Zee TV, Sony TV, and Star Plus have had many a public squabble about film rights, with each rushing to buy up blockbuster Hindi films. This has sent acquisition costs skyward. Sony Entertainment Television chief executive officer Kunal Dasgupta says the only advantage that pre-release acquisition gives is that it lets the deal take place in peace.
