SONY BAGS FILM RIGHTS BEFORE THEIR RELEASE
In what is being described as a new trend,
Hindi general entertainment television channel Sony Entertainment
has signed on with two producers to telecast two Hindi films
even before their theatrical release. In recent times, channels
such as Zee TV, Sony TV, and Star Plus have had many a public
squabble about film rights, with each rushing to buy up blockbuster
Hindi films. This has sent acquisition costs skyward. Sony
Entertainment Television chief executive officer Kunal Dasgupta
says the only advantage that pre-release acquisition gives
is that it lets the deal take place in peace.
