Opinion

The fact is that the (political) toy (state-owned broadcaster Doordarshan) is progressively less useful (to politicians), because fewer people are watching it. The fact is also that the channels that have the highest ratings are partly or wholly foreign-owned: Zee, Star, Sony. Why not recognise what has happened in the marketplace and do the sensible thing: sell Doordarshan to the highest bidder and focus on public service messages as a limited area of government activity.
