SOFTWARE FIRM EYES ON-DEMAND CABLE TV SERVICE

Chennai-headquartered Pentafour Software has drawn up plans to install a nationwide network of IBM mainframes, which will serve as a backbone for cable TV operators or Internet service providers to offer interactive services.

The company has 30 IBM AS 400 machines in India now but V liable to pay for any damages to the stadium. That hiccup apart, the show began a little late and had gaps between presentations and performances. However, the crowd didn't lose any of its enthusiasm. International acts such as Sting, Def Leppard, Aqua, 911, and Indian performers such as Silk Route, Daler Mehndi and Shiamak Davar regaled the audience. Silk Route walked away with the best Indian newcomer, best Indian group and best Indian song awards. Pakistani rock band Junoon bagged the best international group award. British band 911 pocketed the best international newcomer award, while Brit rock band Def Leppard was honoured with a lifetime achievement award. Danish band Aqua was given the best international video award. Bhangra singer Daler Mehndi bagged the best Indian male artist and album awards, while veteran singer Asha Bhonsale was the winner of the best female artiste. The major sponsors of the event were Coca-Cola, Rexona, Taj Mahal Tea bags, Killer jeans, and The Hindustan Times.

Steven M. Bornstein has been named to the newly created position of Chairman of ESPN, with George W. Bodenheimer becoming president. Bornstein additionally continues as president of ABC Sports. ABC Sports, owns an 80% share in ESPN.
