VOICES

"Not really. The size of the youth market is too small for competition. There is a definite need to expand the market."

Channel V India general manager Suresh Bala on whether it was competition from MTV that forced the management to reintroduce the music channel as a youth channel quoted in Bombay Times, The Times of India.

"No one balks at paying Rs 100 or Rs 150 for good entertainment. That kind of money is no big deal for most people.... There are programmers out there who are waiting to supply their products and there are consumers who are willing to receive them and between the two there is a huge chasm. The survival of all of us (television channels) depends on our getting the pay option."

Buena Vista Television India CEO Pratik Basu on the problems in the Indian pay TV market quoted in The Hindu Business Line .
