CULTURAL SHOW COMPELTES 10 YEARS
OF TELECAST
Surabhi, an Indian arts and culture
show will be celebrating its tenth anniversary of being
telecast on state-owned broadcaster Doordarshan next
weekend. The show has been presented unchanged by its
hosts Siddarth Kak and Renuka Sahane for the past decade.
In recent times, food brand Amul has been sponsoring
it, and plans are to develop an Indian cultural portal
at http://www.indiasurabhi.com.
LIGHTS OUT FOR TAMIL CHANNEL
Tamil channel Nila TV, which hoped to
cash in on the popularity of one its founders, TV personality
Rabi Barnard, is floundering. Nila TV which launched
a few months ago has been facing a cash flow problem
and has been off the air for more than two months, though
a test signal was beamed off the ST-1 satellite a fortnight
ago. Barnard says he needs at least Rs 150 million to
run the service, but has finding the money hard to come
by, according to a local newspaper. He hopes to raise
funds and restart Nila by December.
TOBACCO AD BAN NOISES CONTINUE
There were noises that a total ban on
tobacco advertising would be imposed a few months ago.
These noises have started emerging once again with the
health ministry saying that it was considering a blackout
of tobacco and related products in India. The reason:
these are considered as one of the most important causes
of heart disease.
