CHANNEL V AWARDS FLAGGED OFF

The first leg of the Channel V Music awards '98 was held in Mumbai on 15 November. For the first time, the music channel has expanded the awards and split up the awards show into two, one in Mumbai and the other to be held in New Delhi on 21 November. The Mumbai leg of the awards were decided by a panel consisting of representatives of the Indian music industry (IMI) and Channel V. The awards were labeled the industry awards as they recognized the talents of not artistes but of professionals who have helped create the artiste. Meanwhile, Channel V has announced that it is going to lay off a handful of people who have been slacking off.

"A shake-up is on the cards," says general manager Jules Fuller. Fuller adds that the music channel is going to be presenting a new vibrant image in the coming few months.
