CASBAA ’99 CONFERNECE: A PEEK AT THE SHOW

The Cable and Satellite Asia Broadcasting Association of Asia 1999 conference concluded on 3 December. The stars of the show were Michael Bloomberg the founder of media organisation, which goes by his name. He said: "It’s not necessary that the giants of the business will win in the new world of conevergence. Innovators that do different things for different audiences will be successful."

Bloomberg added:"Content is king- but because there will be so much of it branding will become more important than ever before. Content companies will have to ensure that their product goes out over all media formats and delivery systems if they are going to survive."

Another star attraction was Star TV chairman Gareth Chang. His view is that the TV set will be the main mode of delivering online services to Asian homes. He said: Asia Pacific has more than 400 million TV homes. PC penetration is a fraction of that number. Interactive television will put viewers in the driver’s seat. It will be infinitely accessible by what the consumer chooses."
