Doordarshan turns profitable with Rs 943.8 cr revenue in 2018-19

Public service broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) has turned operationally profitable by recording the highest revenue in the last five years. According to information revealed by DD director general Supriya Sahu, the pubcaster's gross revenue rose to Rs1113.7 crore and net revenue to Rs 943.8 crore in the year 2018-19.

ANN's ABP Sanjha, BBC Global News India granted TV channel licences by MIB
ABP News Network (ANN) and BBC Global News India have received a TV channel licence each from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). ANN got the MIB nod (uplinking and downlinking) for ABP Sanjha, a Punjabi news channel, the BBC was handed a licence (only downlinking) under the channel name CBeebies, interestingly in the non-news category.

Republic Bharat enters BARC's top Hindi news channels list in new TRAI tariff regime
Broadcast Audience Research Council of India had taken a breather in publishing data on its website between weeks 5 and 13 of 2019, ostentatiously to give the viewership post the new tariff regime time to settle down to some sort of stability. In the meantime, ARG Outlier Media launched its second news channel after the chart topper English news channel Republic TV.

TRAI starts consultation on entry-level net worth requirement for MSOs in cable TV services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday issued a consultation paper on 'Entry level Net-worth requirement of multi system operators (MSOs) in cable TV services. The Rule 11(3) of Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 deals with the financial strength of the applicant for grant of MSO registration without explicit details thereof.
