MUMBAI: Starcom MediaVest Group has promoted Sandeep Lakhina to chief operating officer -South Asia.

Prior to this, Lakhina was Starcom MediaVest Group managing director India for the western and southern region.

Confirming the development, Lakhina said, "This is a newly created post and I will take charge as COO for South Asia operations from 1 April onwards. As COO, I will head Starcom MediaVest Group operations across all markets in India and the Saarc countries which include Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka."

"While the times ahead are sure challenging, I believe that we are well poised for our next phase of growth, and am looking forward to leading this effort. I know I have with me a solid team to support me in my objectives of growth and product delivery," Lakhina added.

In his new capacity, Lakhina will continue to report to Starcom MediaVest Group CEO-South Asia Ravi Kiran.

Said Kiran, "Creation of the new position of COO will help us consolidate the functioning of Starcom Worldwide across all four offices in India under a common operational leadership and help us deliver a stronger and more integrated product to our clients. Sandeep has proved himself to be a true Starcomer over the past 15 months – focused on people and clients and all that we stand for as a network. He was the natural choice for the new role."

Lakhina will continue to operate from Mumbai.
