MUMBAI: Sab, the family comedy channel, has now turned to the worldwide web for visibility of its shows.

"Internet is not just about visibility but about making direct contact with your audiences. The idea of being on the internet is to build a community of fans around each of our shows. India as a whole is a young country and most of the media options today have a healthy youth consumption and participation. However in this case, we are only trying to give the existing audience a space to interact with their favourite show on all possible options, be it a blog, tweet, YouTube or Facebook," says Sab business head Anooj Kapoor.

The channel also feels that this initiative will help engineer word-of-mouth which will play a strong role in garnering more eyeballs to the shows.

Additionally, the channel also plans to use the services of YouTube. "We would be using YouTube to drive video sampling and get feedback on a regular basis. People will be able to embed this video in their Facebook profile and thus share it with their friends," adds Kapoor.

Smriti Irani starrer 'Maniben.com' started with a fan club on Facebook having around 100 members till the launch of the serial. Post the first telecast, there were another 400 people who joined its fan page. Today, the fan club boasts of more than 2,088 members. The family comedy is also on Orkut. The channel has got Irani to tweet and talk to her fans on Facebook.

The soon to be launched Shekar Suman serial Tedhi Baat Shekhar ke Saath is also to feature in the networking sites.
