Indian amateur footballers to compete at the Budweiser 6v6 Cup 2009

MUMBAI: Beer company Budweiser has announced the return of the Budweiser 6v6 Cup to India.

This will again give football fans in India a chance to represent their country at an international tournament held at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Amateur teams from 14 nations will get to experience coaching sessions at Carrington, watch a Manchester United home game and line up on the pitch at Old Trafford on 25 May, 2009 to challenge each other with only one aim – reign supreme at the Budweiser 6v6 Cup.

Crown Beers India sales and marketing director Rob Newman says, “The chance to play on the same ground as superstars like Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic opportunity for football fans."

“The response to the 2008 Budweiser Cup was overwhelming. The immense desire among fans in India to represent their country on the world famous Old Trafford pitch was tremendous. We’re bringing the Bud Cup back to India to show our continued commitment to football in this country,” adds Newman.

Teams from India comprising of a maximum of eight members can register on the official Budweiser Cup website between 4-28 February. Regional matches will be held in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Goa at venues to be announced on the official website.

“Last year saw India participate for the first time, with great success. This year we look forward to seeing even more participation and excitement at all participating cities,” said Newman.

Budweiser India head of marketing Anil Manjunath says, “For many Indian football enthusiasts, playing at Old Trafford had been a distant dream. With the Budweiser 6v6 Cup, eight enthusiastic football amateurs got to Live their Dream and also represent India."
