MUMBAI: Global fast food restaurant chain McDonald's is joining hands with the Election Commission (EC) to woo youngsters for casting votes during the 2009 polls.

Delhi's chief electoral commissioner Satbir Silas Bedi will put advertisements across 35 McDonald outlets in the capital to encourage youth for voting.

"People from McDonald's approached the EC with the proposal and got approval. This is the first time that a restaurant chain is being roped in to promote elections among youngsters," says Bedi.

Almost four million youngsters aged 18 to 29 are registered under the electoral list in Delhi which marks 39 per cent of the registered voters in Delhi.

Earlier, Delhi's electoral office had also launched a promotional campaign in colleges and universities to encourage young voters to enroll themselves into the electoral list.

McDonald's MD Vikram Bakshi said, "It's our responsibility to encourage people to vote."

The advertisement campaign will terminate on 7 May.
