Honda Motorcycle & Scooter unveils new ‘Activa’

BANGALORE: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., (HMSI) today unveiled a new variant of its existing gearless scooter ‘Activa’.

The existing variant, which has been contributing 46 per cent to HMSI annual revenues of Rs 36 billion, will be phased out. HMSI plans to complete the pan India rollout of the new variant by 22 April through its 650 strong dealer and branch network.

Some cosmetic changes, a slightly higher engine capacity and a 15 per cent increased mileage are the USP of ‘Activa’s’ new avatar.

A deluxe variant is likely to be launched by August 2009, according to company officials. HMSI is looking to sell 550,000 units of the new Activa variant this fiscal.

The company also showcased a new TVC with the tagline– ‘Joy ON & ON’, created by Dentsu that will hit TV screens across the country next week. HMSI has planned a multimedia campaign, according to company officials. The ‘Activa’ has been positioned as a family vehicle.

HMSI will close the just ended financial year (ended March 31, 2009) with volumes of 10.7 million units including 55,000 units that have been exported, company officials said. The company is targeting a growth of 18 per cent and 12.5 million units for FY 2009-10.
