MUMBAI: Google has signed a multi-year advertising, research, and technology deal with NBC Universal wherein Google will sell ads across some of the cable networks owned by NBC.

The NBC cable networks included in this deal are Sci Fi, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth and Chiller.

The companies said in a statement that both of them will share in the revenue from ads sold using the Google TV Ads platforms. NBC also stated that if the deal met high success, it could expand in the future to other NBC Universal properties.

“Our partnership with NBCU will help us bring the power of television to a broader set of advertisers as well as give our current advertisers increased reach through our system,” said Google president advertising and commerce North America Tim Armstrong.

Using the Google TV Ads platform, the two companies also plan to work together on a series of custom marketing and research projects.

Apart from sharing revenues from the partnership, Google and NBC are also looking at new methods to test the effectiveness of advertising and measurement of audience, along with new ways to allow Google to sell ads in local markets and not just at the national level.
