MUMBAI: From 11 October every Saturday at 10 pm National Geographic Channel (NGC) will air the show Food Lover’s Guide To The Planet.

The programme is all about new food trends, exotic ingredients. The show trots across the globe including India to showcase spicy biryani, farmer’s markets in Mexico, soy sauce factories in Hong Kong, etc.

The show looks to bring alive the cultures of different places through food. It also looks at new technologies coming up in the cuisine area and in kitchens.

To offer viewers and people passionate about food an on-ground experience, the broadcaster has tied up with Olive Bar and Kitchen for a three-day World Street Food Festival across its outlets at Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. The festival, which kicked off in Delhi today, concludes in Mumbai on 8 October.

NGC India senior VP content and communication Rajesh Sheshadri says that the show focusses on exquisite street cuisine from around the world. Olive, he notes, offers a window to Indians for global cusiine and hence the tie up made sense. “The series dives into the realm of the world’s greatest cuisine from New Zealand’s purest honey to Italy’s parmigiano Reggiano. The show offers examples of sustainable farming and fishing as well as new efforts being made to cultivate organic dairy, meat and plant products.”

Olive Bar and kitchen managing partner AD Singh notes that the series will bring alive different cities through the culture of food. “I am passionate about food and my last few trips abroad have centred around it. I am happy to partner with National Geographic Channel to kick the series off on the right note.”

NGC has developed a microsite for the show. Viewers can check out episode details, videos, a photo gallery and also vote for their favourite street food. NGC has also created on air spots featuring Singh telling viewers to tune in to the show.
