BANGALORE: HCL Infosystems Limited today announced the all-India launch of its Leaptop -39, 'distinctly Indian' series laptops specifically meant to suit Indian ambient conditions and to meet the demands of Indian consumers. A few days ago, HCL had had a soft launch of the first series of HCL MTV Leaptop edition.

HCL plans to continue its current brand building campaign and commence a new campaign for its Leaptop 'Distinctly Indian' range of laptops, according to HCL executive vice president –marketing George Paul.

The new offerings will be available through HCL's 73 Digilife stores and 3000 multi-brand retail outlets. The company is looking to be the largest laptop player in India over the next eighteen months and take its present market share of 7.4 percent of the 1.7 million laptop market in India to double digits. It plans to do this by offering products specifically meant for India, by providing bundled offers with companies such as Reliance Communications, BSNL and Airtel and by co-branding. It also plans to increase the number of company owned and franchisee Digilife stores to 150 over the next 18 months. Some of the new stores will open in tier-2 and tier-3 cities according to Paul.

At present, HCL's initiative with MTV is limited to integration through co-branding. The next level would be integration with MTV's programs such as 'Roadies,' according to company officials. Currently HCL MTV Leaptop laptops are available only in HCL's Digilife stores.
