MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi, in association with Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL), has undertaken an initiative to light up homes with compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), in Bangalore.

With this initiative, Mirchi plans to create awareness among people to use CFLs that conserve energy as opposed to incandescent bulbs.

Radio Mirchi cluster head Karnataka and Kerala Rahul Balyan said, "We have always been in the forefront when it comes to such impact creating eco-friendly measures under Mirchi Cares. We are very happy to be associated with KREDL for driving the initiative to save power by the use of CFLs."

As part of a strategic campaign against conventional bulbs, Radio Mirchi RJs replaced bulbs in their homes with CFLs. This was followed by on-air contests on power tips for listeners, where winners got CFL hampers consisting four CFL bulbs for their homes.

Listeners also have shared their views on how they are contributing towards the anti-global warming campaign in their day-to-day life in the morning show Hi Bangalore, hosted by Rachna.

As part of a ground promotion, Mirchi representatives visited the homes of 20 winners in Bangalore and CFLised their homes by collecting all the incandescent bulbs and gifting them CFLs.

The RJs on their respective shows made a mass appeal by asking people to dispose of their old bulbs in exchange of free CFL bulbs. Through E Parisara, Radio Mirchi is ensuring the eco-friendly disposition of the CFLs.

As a finale of this promotion, Radio Mirchi has replaced incandescent bulbs in more than 150 houses in Bangalore with CFLs.
