NEW DELHI: Sony bagged six awards for excellence in consumer electronics including the best television sets and home music systems at the EFY Awards.

Deepak Puri of Moser Baer who created a sensation with low-priced film DVDs in the market received the Special Jury prize.

Sony also received prizes for digital cameras and camcorders and shared the prizes for personal music systems with Apple iPod and security cameras with Zicom.

The awards have been instituted by EFY Enterprises Pvt Ltd (EFY Group), one of Asia's leading technology media groups, and are based on Readers' Choice in 26 different product categories. The group also manages the Electronics for You magazine.

Awards were also received for DVD players by Philips, educational kits and trainers by Scientech, mobile phones by Nokia, digital projectors by Panasonic and PCs by HP-Compaq.

Videocon Group chairman and MD VN Dhoot was adjudged the "Electronics Man of the Year" while Nokia walked away with the "Electronics Organisation of the Year" award.

The awards were presented by Salman Khurshid, former Union Minister of State of External Affairs, government of India, and the head of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

Electronics for You editor and publisher Ramesh Chopra said, "The awards are our way of recognising and rewarding the catalyst individuals and organisations which are enabling the digital world."
