Ashutosh Srivastava elevated to Asia Pacific CEO of MindShare; Vikram Sakhuja takes over as GroupM COO South Asia

MUMBAI: It was on 1 October 2004 when there was last a round of promotions within GroupM. Today saw another major one with the announcement that Ashutosh Srivastava, currently CEO of GroupM South Asia, will move to Singapore as MindShare Asia Pacific CEO following Nick Waters’ appointment as CEO Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

In India, Srivastava will be replaced by Vikram Sakhuja, currently MD of MindShare South Asia, who now takes over GroupM CEO India and COO South Asia.

There is no word yet on who will take up Sakhuja's current position but going by past precedent it could well be MindShare Fulcrum general manager R Gowthaman. Another strong candidate, according to the market buzz, is MindShare Delhi general manager Sundar Raman.

Srivastava and Sakhuja were part of the team that established MindShare in South Asia in January 2002.

Srivastava was the MD for MindShare India till 2004, after which he took up the role of CEO for GroupM South Asia following the elevation of Andre Nair as chairman and CEO of Mediaedge:cia. Srivastava was also part of the regional executive committee of GroupM.

Commenting on his new role, Srivastava says “Its been a privilege working with such a talented team here in South Asia and creating this organisation. I look forward to taking some of the best practices from here and helping consolidate our leading position in Asia.”

Sakhuja was the MD of MindShare Fulcrum till 2004, after which he took additional charge of MindShare India. On his new role, Sakhuja says, “To steward GroupM at its consolidation stage is going to be an exciting challenge. Market leadership brings both, expectations and responsibilities. We have great media brands in MindShare, Maxus, MEC, Motivator and Mediacom. I look forward to these brands being the top 5 in Indian/ South Asian Media.”

Says Nair, CEO for GroupM – South East & South Asia, “I am very pleased about the promotions of Ashu and Vikram. Succession planning has always been an integral part of our talent management plans. These appointments demonstrate the vitality of our company not only in India but across the region and our commitment to the growth of our stars.”

Incidentally, it was six to seven months ago that Nair moved out from his operational role as CEO of Mediaedge:cia Asia Pacific to head GroupM in South East & South Asia. Nair's role in Mediaedge:cia was taken over by David Morgan.
