Sharp India gets aggressive on LCD television segment

MUMBAI: Sharp India Ltd is looking at the LCD TV segment to deliver in the Indian market. The company is expecting the sales to touch the 20,000 mark by 2008.

Announcing Sharp's marketing strategy in India, the company's VP sales & marketing Prasun Banerjee said, "We see India as a very promising market for our LCD TVs and are hopeful of selling at least 6,000 units this year and 20,000 by 2008."

In India, Sharp's LCD TV carries the brand name Aquos. The product has a base price of Rs 45,900.

Sharp India MD T. Yamazaki said that the company would launch the latest products in India as soon as they are launched worldwide to ensure that the Indian consumer gets the latest in technology.

This fiscal, Sharp India will spend around Rs 100 million for advertising and promotions. The company's media account is managed by Percept H.
