Samsung introduces new digital products in India

BANGALORE: Samsung India has announced the national launch of three categories of digital products, which comprises digital still cameras, digital camcoders and MP3 players.

To differentiate between the products offered by present players in the growing Indian market, and attract customers in the urban as well as the rural segment, Samsung has brought in the products with additional features. This includes an MP3 Player with digital camera - YP-D1 with a 2 mega pixel digital camera and YP-Z5 having slim design and its Intuitive User Interface, states an official release.

The YP-D1 comes with a 2 GB memory. Samsung has a lineup of five flash based MP3 players, priced in the range Rs 4,390 to Rs 21,500. With this, Samsung plans to capture 10 per cent of the estimated 300,000 numbers Indian market, which incidentally would entail a 400 per cent jump over their last year, the release adds.

For digital still cameras, the flagship new DSC range offers several unique features, claims the release. Samsung now has a range of six Digital Still Camera models, priced in the range between Rs 10,490 to Rs 54,990 in the Indian market. Samsung wants to capture 10 per cent of the estimated 450,000 numbers market pie, the release informs.

The top end digital camcoder range comes bundled with unique features like DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R (Dual Layer) capability, 4-in-1 multi memory card slot, and the 2.5" wide LCD. Here too, Samsung wants a 10 per cent of the 250,000 estimated Indian market for this category.

In-house agency Chail handles Samsung's ad campaigns. According to Samsung GM, Consumer Electronics Rajiv Kenue, the campaign for these products, though initially focused on the print media, would entail more than the normal 7 to 8 per cent of revenues that Samsung spend on product promotions and marketing.

The new offerings will be direct imports and not manufactured in India.
