Internet & Online Association strengthens membership

MUMBAI: The Internet & Online Association (IOA), which was set up early this year recently announced that it has added eight additional key memberships.

Apart from the founding members -,,,,, and the online media agency, Mediaturf; IOA's eight new members are India Pvt Ltd and Bharti Televentures Ltd (primary members), Group M Media India Pvt Ltd, Starcom -IP and Cox & Kings (associate members) and three new individual members, which include Anil Wanvari (, Dhruvakanth Shenoy (Monster Asia) and Neeraj Roy (



IOA chairman V Ramani said, "It is my pleasure to welcome these esteemed companies to the IOA. These members will unquestionably enhance the industry-strengthening efforts by contributing thought leaders and unique perspective to IOA's committees, roundtables and forums. In fact, we are adding substantial muscle to the IOA cause by adding the leaders in the respective spaces; the largest e-commerce and auction portal, the largest cellular operator in the country and the largest media AOR from the country. Add these names to the seven primary members and you can see the scope of progress that the IOA could make in the next few months. We are quite excited with these developments."



IOA president Preeti Desai said, "It is abundantly clear that this industry will achieve the greatest success through direct and open dialogue. Bringing together companies from seemingly diverse businesses under the auspices of the IOA creates the perfect forum to foster and promote such collaborative work to the benefit of the entire industry. Representing the perspective of companies that support the IOA charter, member companies will work with the IOA Council in identifying and prioritising key issues and initiatives the industry will undertake to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiencies of the business. Associate members are eligible to join any of IOA's sub-committees, and will meet separately four times a year at a minimum."



Encouraged by the progress and vision of IOA, some of the newly founded members shared their perspective. MD Avnish Bajaj said, "We are delighted to be a part of IOA - an association that is going to be on the forefront of helping grow the Internet and Internet-based commerce and advertising."

Bharti Televentures VP new products development and alliances Mohit Bhatnagar said, "There will soon be more mobile phones than PCs in India. Airtel is pleased to be a part of IOA to drive the rapid adoption of the wireless Internet."

mOne (Group M) business director Tushar Vyas said, "We are glad to join in this effort to bring together the industry within a single forum. This was much needed initiative to shape future of online advertising, mobile marketing and content business. We also look forward to participate in IOA initiatives in areas of understanding the audience profile and behaviour."

Starcom IP and Starcom Entertainment director Pranay Anthwal said, "It is our belief that the formation of a neutral industry association such as the IOA reflects the maturing of the online media industry. We are happy to be able to contribute to the future growth of the medium by bringing our understanding of how users view the Net, mobile and gaming in their life context." CEO Anil Wanvari said "I, as founder of India's leading media portal and web-enabled TV services company,, am happy to become a part of the IOA. There are many issues the Internet and online industry, which is growing at a rapid clip, is grappling with. I believe that initiatives such as the IOA can only work in the right direction, that is, towards resolution of the problems, and making life simpler for all those involved. Also, I believe the association will not only serve as a representative for large mass-targeted Internet and Online firms but will also look after the interests of smaller niche players too." CEO Neeraj Roy said, "In a digitally connected environment that is mobile and increasingly better networked, the IOA is a welcome body to educate advertisers and primary stakeholders on the opportunities in this medium. Over the next three years Internet advertising and eCommerce activity is expected to grow at over 50 per cent per annum and is delighted to be a part of this association."
