20th Century Fox and Indiagames get 'Buffy' on mobile

MUMBAI: Twentieth Century Fox have teamed up with Indiagames to launch Buffy the Vampire Slayer on wireless.

A leading mobile entertainment developer - Indiagames has entered into an agreement with FOX L&M's Wireless Entertainment group to bring wireless content based on the UPN television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The wireless content includes mobile games, wallpapers, screensavers, ring tones, and alerts.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a successful television series revolving around the life of a vampire slayer called Buffy (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) - the chosen one- and her close group of friends. The team of do-gooders join hands to protect their hometown Sunnydale from evil and the undead in all incarnations.

The television series, which premiered in March 1997, is a re-invention of a character first written in 1992 for a feature film. Branded as a cult hit, the show is currently being aired in India on Star World. The show has an intensely loyal, global fan following, says an Indiagame release.

Previously, Indiagame has generated several games both for console (XBOX and PS2) and portable game devices (Game Boy Advance).

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great property for the mobile generation—it’s global, youthful, fresh and works on several levels. Buffy is typical of the vast body of great TV and theatrical content that Fox has at its disposal, content perfect for translation into mobile content and cross-marketing synergies,” said Twentieth Century Fox, wireless entertainment, licensing and merchandising division, vice president Jim Beddows.

“Indiagames has already done a great job interpreting Fox’s The day after tomorrow into mobile content and we look forward to a similar effort for Buffy,” he added.

“Buffy is a sensation with youth across the world and has proven to be a hugely successful television and game franchise. Indiagames with its development and worldwide distribution strengths is best suited to get this cult brand to mobile phones across the world. We hope die-hard Buffy fans will enjoy the mobile experience,” offered Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal.
