MUMBAI: Infospace Mobile which provides mobile content, data infrastructure, tools and applications has announced a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG).

As part of the contract, Infospace Mobile will act as a preferred UMG service provider in the US for the production and delivery of UMG audio ringtone content to UMG's wireless retailers. Music lovers will now be able to personalise their mobile phones with downloadable TruTones from popular Universal artistes.

A company release states that TruTones are Infospace Mobile's proprietary next-generation ringtones. These ringtones are true audio versions of popular music and other sounds which have been shortened to serve as audio alerts on capable wireless handsets. UMG is a division of Vivendi Universal.

UMG has added that the deal will enable them to accelerate growth in the mobile marketplace. InfoSpace's technical capabilities and secure distribution platform allows it to offer its artists' content across multiple wireless formats, devices and carrier networks. Mobile devices are a key part of the future of music consumption and industry growth the company noted.

In addition UMG will also benefit from the usage data gathered from InfoSpace Mobile's infrastructure and centralised reporting systems. These will track aggregate sales of TruTones content by distribution channel and handset. The insight will enable Universal to better understand audio ringtone demand and improve their ability to reach and deliver content to consumers. .
