The resignation this morning of Monica Tata, senior V-P ad sales
(Star World, Star Movies, Channel [V], National Geographic and The
History Channel), was not in the corporate restructure script that
had been worked out by Star India COO Sameer Nair.
What was in the script was the shifting of senior V-P Yash Khanna
from corporate communications to head of client relations. Khanna's
will be an expanded responsibility to what was being managed by
Ravi Kumar (formerly V-P heading Ambience D'Arcy's Delhi office),
who joined Star in July 2003 as senior V-P heading client services.
Kumar, meanwhile, has been shifted to corporate affairs and reports
to the recently appointed executive vice-president corporate affairs
and communications Nitin Atroley.
As for Monica Tata, if all had gone according to plan, she would
have been shifted to head of sales for the soon to be launched Tata-Star
DTH venture, informed sources tell indiantelevision.com. Tata, whose
birthday it was today, made the announcement of her departure at
a lunch she hosted for her team, sources say.
Tata is reportedly joining Turner International India as national
sales head in the vacancy left after Soumitra Saha, vice president
of advertising and sales, was promoted to V-P regional entertainment,
advertising and sales, Turner Entertainment Networks Asia Pacific.
When asked for a response about the day's developments, a Turner
India spokesperson said, "We cannot confirm at this moment
her (Tata's) joining the organisation."
Turner India manages ad sales for Cartoon Network, CNN and Pogo,
as well as the English channels in the Zee Group - Zee MGM, Zee
English and Trendz.
